Why a dog show?

“Is that a picture of your dog?” No, not my dog, but here is why the dogs. When I first started to understand who the God of the Bible was, I came across a verse in the book of Matthew.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

(Matthew 11:28-30)

My favorite words, rest, easy, and light. I liked the idea of these words, but I didn’t know how to attain rest, and my burdens never seemed easy. “Lord, how to attain this easy burden?”

I prayed.
He answered that prayer.
He sent me to Taiwan to work with local churches.

I headed out with my husband and two toddlers. I studied Taiwanese, (not easy, by the way), raised two kids, and by my fourth year in, I was clinically depressed.

The depression came partly from being in a culture that was not my own, a physical issue that I have always struggled with, and being with a group of people that had a specific view of what it meant to work as a missionary.

The latter being the biggest one. I tended to want to please people and do the right thing, but you can only do that for so long. When it is completely out of your wheelhouse, it is a struggle, and can lead to depression.

So when will it get easy?
Well, it gets easy when you continually go to
God and ask Him to help, give you the strength, and show you what he wants you to do.

God showed me the dogs in Taiwan. They were hanging out in the park, running with their buddies, taking a snooze on the side of the road. They were being dogs and they were happy living their dog life. The dogs

showed me God’s answer. It is also stated succinctly in Ephesians.

” For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we
can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
(Ephesians 2:10)

God created me to be an artist. I think about creating, I love working with my hands. Art has been something I have always done. So, with the vision of the lovely dogs, I wanted to set them in images that could inspire people. Enameling is the technique I decided to use. I am doing a lot better now, and after 25 years of learning, I am enjoying the rest that can be found in relying on God.
